It was reported not so long ago in the Finish newspaper called ‘Helsingin Sanomat’ that it has been suggested that a new government report is recommending that the current gambling laws be amended in order to allow sanghoki players to retrieve previous online losses from the game.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health commissioned the paper and has made claims that the new law could and most likely would effectively give online sanghoki companies little option but to block all Finnish players from participating in games on their sites. This move would of course have negative repercussions upon the poker industry in both Finland and upon companies from all across the world. Companies would in turn lose substantial amounts of profit, along with of course preventing Finish players from roaming the freedom that is enjoyed by the rest of the world when playing poker online. This surely cannot be a good thing for the morale of the game in Finland and may force many players out of the game entirely as there are a lot of players that rely solely on online poker games for income or leisure.
Losses would be recouped from one of the following; the online provider, credit-card Company, or player, and the legal amendment is designed to protect problem gamblers and children. This apparently the aim of the application of the legislation, the outcome of it is yet to be seen and many hold controversial views that apply to both sides of the argument.
There is no such law found anywhere else across the globe, and the Ministry appears to feel that many other countries will in turn follow suit and mimic the actions taken by the Finnish government. If this were to happen then the poker world could potentially be devastated, along with having an impact on all of the financial organisations involved in the process such as banks.
Helsingin Sanomat has said that Finns spend approximately €150 million on online poker every single year. It is also claimed that there are great levels of problem gamblers existing in the country (around 40,000) and that Finns are the fourth-biggest gamblers in the world in terms of how much they spend per head of the population.
Titan sanghoki Players in Ireland Open
The Titan Poker website has recently been so interested in the Irish Open poker event that it has decided to take a particular selection of its finest online players to travel to Ireland and take part in the tournament. This decision is certainly a positive element for Ireland and the game, as the location will most likely now be put on the international map as a result of such high class players showing their faces.
Titan poker has definitely avoided any bias in relation to their choice of players to represent them in the competition, with players deriving from all across the globe. Player origins include Denmark, Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Spain and Switzerland whom will be sent to Dublin for the tournament. Titan Poker have stated that the 16 players who were selected for the trip to Dublin have each been awarded $8,500 prize packages to the Irish open which is to take place between March 19th and 24th. Included in these prize packages is entry into the €3,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event in Dublin, aeroplane flights, accommodation and of course an opportunity to have a tourists look around the great Irish city.
One of the entrants coming from Titan Poker is Danish player Ole Langvad Wessby, who has said he plans to treat his win as both work along as a vacation at the same time. Ole is evidentially excited at the prospect of his trip to the Irish open, as can be seen in the following quote:
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to compare my poker abilities against the pros,” said another winner, Jeffrey Maynard from the Netherlands.”
Titan Poker appears to enjoy sending its top players across the globe, most likely in an effort to promote the site as a whole and provide a representation of the manner of competition that is offered online in terms of players. The poker site doesn’t solely send its players to Ireland of course, and the Irish open is obviously not the only tournament Titan Poker’s players are entered into. Entrance seats to tournaments all across the world and quite often awarded to its players, in turn spreading the word of the site at a variety of different locations.
